# POWERHER: Nomusa Shezi Is Reimagining Primary Healthcare Through Healing, Leadership and Purpose

As part of the #PowerHer campaign this Women’s Month, Youth To Power Network celebrates women who are not only building businesses but are using their skills, experiences and purpose to create meaningful change within their communities.

One such woman is Nomusa Shezi, a Registered Nurse, healthcare entrepreneur and founder of The Healing Hands Hub a primary healthcare practice based in Ennerdale, Johannesburg.

With a postgraduate management qualification from Stellenbosch University and formal dispensing credentials from Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU), Nomusa has built a career that reflects determination, continuous learning and a deep commitment to serving others.

 From Shoprite to Healthcare Entrepreneurship

Nomusa's journey is a powerful reminder that entrepreneurship does not always begin with a business plan. Sometimes, it begins with a desire to make things better.

Her professional journey started in retail at Shoprite, while she continued pursuing her nursing and dispensing qualifications. Those early experiences taught her lessons that would later become fundamental to her leadership: perseverance, empathy, discipline and grit.

As she progressed into nursing and gained experience within healthcare environments, Nomusa began noticing gaps in the way patients experienced primary healthcare.

For her, healthcare needed to be more than simply diagnosing and treating patients.

It needed to be accessible, compassionate and centred around the person sitting in front of the healthcare professional.

That realisation became the foundation for The Healing Hands Hub.

Building a Healthcare Space Where Patients Feel Heard

Established in Ennerdale, The Healing Hands Hub was born from a critical need for accessible, reliable and high-quality primary healthcare within the community.

Nomusa envisioned a healthcare environment where patients would feel genuinely heard, cared for and treated with dignity.

The practice brings together primary healthcare services and licensed medication dispensing, creating a more convenient, end-to-end healthcare experience for patients.

This approach reflects Nomusa's broader vision: to transform primary healthcare into a holistic and compassionate experience rather than simply a clinical transaction.

Her work demonstrates the power of identifying a gap within your community and having the courage to build a solution around it.

When the Nurse Becomes the Entrepreneur

Moving from bedside nursing into entrepreneurship came with its own challenges.

Running an independent healthcare practice meant Nomusa had to expand her skill set beyond clinical care. She had to navigate regulatory requirements, licensing, medication supply management, administration and the complexities of running a business while maintaining professional standards.

It was a steep learning curve.

But rather than allowing the challenges to discourage her, Nomusa embraced them as opportunities to grow.

“Leadership is about adaptability and continuous growth.”

For Nomusa, resilience does not mean never feeling overwhelmed. It means remaining anchored to your vision even when the responsibilities become demanding.

And at the centre of that vision is her “why” — her patients and her community.

Turning Challenges Into Lessons

Entrepreneurship often comes with moments when the vision feels bigger than the resources available.

Nomusa's journey has taught her that setbacks can become opportunities to improve systems, refine processes and become a better leader.

Her story is particularly significant for young women considering entrepreneurship because it challenges the idea that you need to have everything figured out before you begin.

Sometimes, growth happens while you are building.

Sometimes, leadership develops because circumstances require you to step up.

And sometimes, the biggest transformation happens when you decide to take ownership of your vision.

Healing Beyond the Consultation Room

For Nomusa, the future of The Healing Hands Hub goes beyond providing day-to-day medical services.

She envisions the practice becoming a vital pillar of health, outreach and education within Ennerdale and surrounding communities.

A major part of that vision is health literacy.

Nomusa wants people to become more informed and empowered about their own health so that they can make better decisions about their wellbeing.

This vision positions The Healing Hands Hub not only as a healthcare provider, but as a potential platform for community empowerment and education.

Creating Space for Women in Healthcare Entrepreneurship

Nomusa's journey also carries a powerful message for women working within the healthcare sector.

She hopes her story will inspire fellow nurses and young women in health to consider clinical entrepreneurship and advanced practice as legitimate pathways for professional growth.

Her ambition is to demonstrate that nurse-led primary healthcare businesses can play an important role in healthcare innovation and community upliftment.

This is at the heart of #PowerHer.

Women are not only participating in industries — they are creating solutions, leading organisations, employing others and changing the communities around them.

Nomusa is doing exactly that.

Where You Start Doesn't Dictate Where You End

From starting her career in retail to becoming a qualified healthcare professional and entrepreneur, Nomusa Shezi's story is one of progression.

It is a story about learning, adapting and remaining committed to purpose.

Most importantly, it is a reminder that your starting point does not have to become your limitation.

Her philosophy is captured perfectly in the quote she lives by:

“Where you start does not dictate how far you can go. Dedication, continuous learning, and a heart for service will always pave the way for success.”

This Women's Month, Youth To Power Network celebrates Nomusa Shezi not simply because she built a healthcare business, but because she chose to turn her knowledge, experience and passion for service into something that can benefit an entire community.

Her qualification became her foundation.

Her experience became her insight.

Her challenges became her lessons.

And her purpose became her business.

That is the power of #PowerHer.
